Shop Update: May, 2024

In a perfect world, we would be able to repair your instrument instantly, resulting in zero downtime for you, the player.

Unfortunately, this never happens. Historically, we’ve always divided our work into two general groups:

  1. Smaller jobs – tune-ups, tenon cork replacements, minor dent work, cleanings. Warranty service also falls into this category. We try to have these ready within a week, two weeks as the most.
  2. Larger jobs – repads, overhauls, custom work, work orders involving multiple instruments, anything sent out for refinishing. These can take several weeks to months depending on the complexity of the job as well as what’s on our shop calendar.

This system has generally served our customers well. Sometimes we get busy, or we’re waiting for a special-order part and need extra time to complete everything.

As I write this, we are experiencing an absolutely unprecedented amount of work. It’s a blessing – we’re not complaining – but it is a reality. Our shop calendar is full for the rest of May and all of June, and we anticipate the following.

  1. Tiny jobs – sax neck corks, for example, can still be completed in a day or two.
  2. Warranty service will go to the front of the line. as always.
  3. For most other jobs, we will need at least 4-6 weeks to repair anything brought in for the foreseeable future.
  4. Exact timing depends on how quickly we can complete instruments already in our shop – without sacrificing quality – and the scope of repairs your instrument requires. As always, we will provide an estimate of turn-around time when we examine your instrument.
  5. Our goal is to return to our “old normal” as soon as possible and we thank you for your patience and continued patronage.
