Well, I’ve had my horn for almost a week now, and I just want to say thank you for the excellent work! I have played it every day and it just gets better and better. The overhaul has made the bottom end play like a completely different horn. I’ve been experimenting with playing ballads in the lower register, such as starting Body and Soul on low C instead of middle C, which brings out some of the tenor-like qualities of the horn. And, since it’s so easy to play down low now, and I don’t have to overcompensate for some of the old stuffiness with a softer reed, I have also been experimenting with slightly harder reeds which give me a fuller sound all over the horn. The action is snappy, the microtuner works great – everything is superb! The overhaul has really brought this great vintage horn back to its full potential.
And, thank you for the fast turnaround time and excellent communication. I am so happy that I brought this horn to you. I have always been more of a bari and tenor player, but now that my Conn alto is playing so great, I think I am going to be spending a LOT more time with it. My in-laws live down here, so we’ll be visiting regularly, including again in December. Whenever I need adjustments or a tune-up, I will definitely and strongly consider bringing the horn down with me so I can bring it back to you for excellent work.
